On 7 June 2023, WCP Zambia launched the Environmental Crime Journalism Fellowship (ECJ). This fellowship is designed to empower young media professionals in Zambia with a better understanding of environmental and climate rights issues and how best to report these stories in a well-informed and balanced manner.
Through immersive learning experiences, interactive sessions, and hands-on fieldwork, journalists gain invaluable insights into the complexities of environmental crimes and the importance of fact-based reporting in combating misinformation.
The Media Fellowship aims to:
Encourage well-researched reporting environmental and conservation reporting. Leverage powerful storytelling, both in visual and non-visual formats, to build public awareness and engagement.
Support regional and local media journalists.
Highlight or expose critical environmental crime and conservation issues in Zambia.
Improve the availability of credible and diverse narratives.
Improve the media spaces to make them more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible.
Improve access to skills development for high-quality and responsible journalism.
